Questions and answers
Straight answers about empty legs, regular charter and how Empty Legs Near Me works. If your question is not here, add it to the notes in your quote request.
Empty legs
What is an empty leg?
A flight an aircraft has to make without passengers, usually to return to base after a one-way trip or to reach its next pickup. The operator sells the empty cabin at a reduced price because the flight is happening anyway.
How much cheaper are empty legs?
Discounts of roughly 25 to 75 percent below a normal one-way charter are common. The figure depends on the aircraft, the route, the season and how close to departure the leg is. These are estimates; each leg is priced individually and we always show the all-in total.
Can an empty leg be canceled or moved?
Yes. The leg depends on the original paid trip, so if that trip changes, the leg can change or be canceled. Your charter agreement explains what happens to your payment. For fixed plans we quote a regular charter as a backup.
Can I change the time or route of an empty leg?
Sometimes, slightly. An operator may be able to shift a departure by an hour or use a nearby airport, occasionally for an extra charge. Large changes usually turn the leg into a regular charter.
Can I book a return on an empty leg?
Empty legs are one way. Your return can be another leg if one fits, or a regular charter. We can price both directions together.
Alerts and requests
How do empty-leg alerts work?
You tell us your home airports, how far you will drive, where you would like to go and when you could travel. When an operator releases a matching leg, we email it with the aircraft, timing and all-in price. Alerts are free and you can stop them at any time.
Do I need a membership or a deposit?
No. There is no membership, deposit or sign-up to request a quote or an alert. You pay only when you book a flight under a signed charter agreement.
What happens after I send a request?
An advisor reviews it and emails you options: the aircraft, the operator, the timing and the total price. Nothing is booked until you sign a charter agreement with the operating carrier named.
Can you arrange multi-city or international trips?
Yes. We arrange one-way, round-trip and multi-city flights in the US and worldwide, on aircraft from turboprops to ultra long range jets. Choose Multi-city in the form and list the other legs in the notes.
Price and the flight
What is included in the price?
Our quotes are all-in. On domestic US flights that includes the 7.5% federal excise tax and per-passenger segment fees, plus airport, handling and crew costs. De-icing, catering, Wi-Fi and international fees are included or listed when they apply.
Is the price per seat or for the whole aircraft?
For the whole aircraft. Empty legs and charters are priced per flight, so the cost is the same whether two or eight people fly, up to the cabin limit for that trip.
Can I bring my dog?
Usually, yes. Many operators accept pets in the cabin once they sign off on it, so tell us the size and breed and we will only suggest aircraft that say yes.
How much luggage can I bring?
It depends on the aircraft. Light jets suit soft bags; larger jets take skis, golf bags and big suitcases. List what you are bringing and we will match the aircraft to it.
Safety and standards
Who operates the flights?
Empty Legs Near Me is an air charter broker and is not a direct air carrier. We do not own or operate aircraft; every flight is operated by an FAA Part 135 (or foreign equivalent) direct air carrier in operational control of the aircraft. The operator is named on your quote before you book.
What do ARGUS, Wyvern and IS-BAO mean?
They are independent safety audits and standards. ARGUS rates operators at levels such as Gold, Gold+ and Platinum; Wyvern's Wingman standard is verified on site; IS-BAO is an international code of practice registered in three stages. Many operators we work with hold one or more of them.
